Autism and Asperger’s

Music therapy can be very helpful for those with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum especially children and young people.

Our experienced therapists use music making to build a positive relationship with the child. They will follow a child’s lead and respond to their play. This helps the child to engage on their terms and it allows verbal and non-verbal children to communicate, interact and respond.

Music therapy gives the child a safe space to play in a free and supportive environment and it allows them to be heard. It can help a child to listen and respond through turn taking and play. It can also help stimulate language development through songs.

Music therapy can help both verbal and non-verbal children build their confidence and self-esteem, helping them to manage in other situations at school and at home.

We provide music therapy for children with autism at our Bristol centre and in schools. If you want to know more about how we can support a child with autism, please get in touch.

“A has definitely improved in verbal communication, eye contact and ability to engage with others. I feel this therapy has helped her so much and she has had fun too!”
