Why do we Need Your Support

MusicSpace relies on donations from trusts, companies and individuals to continue to provide its services. Although we have established contracts with National Health Trusts, Local Education Authorities and Social Services, that income goes straight back to the therapists to help provide our quality music therapy provision. There are not enough spare funds from those sessions to further develop the services we offer.

Our national office supports the work of the branches. It also raises funds so that our music therapy provision, research initiatives, teaching programmes and information service and can all be run and extended. Some of the funds are used to pump prime new music therapy projects, some to provide musical instruments and equipment and some to help individuals and groups who are unable to pay for the full amount of a session.

An individual session will last from half an hour to an hour (depending on age) and a group session up to one and a half or two hours. Our clients may stay with us in therapy from six months to two years and sometimes longer, depending on clinical needs. It costs an average of £40 to provide an hour's therapy. Our centres are comfortable and safe environments for sessions and are equipped with instruments and recording facilities to the value of £5,000. We need to maintain these high standards of provision and equipment. Examples of our work can be seen in the GallerySpaces.

This is where the money goes

  • £40 funds one hour of individual music therapy
  • £500 funds a short programme of individual music therapy
  • £2000 equips a therapist with instruments for outreach work
  • £15,000 funds a part time music therapist for a year
